Bregenz is a medium-size city of approximately 30,000 inhabitants rich in natural and cultural beauty. A city of regional importance dating back to the Romans, Bregenz lies just a few miles from the German and Swiss borders and has the advantage of being both on Lake Constance and at the foot of the Alps.
Since 1975, KIIS students have found Bregenz to be an ideal setting for their European stay. It is small enough that they can comfortably get to know both the town and its people. With its small shops, splendid churches, old city, and picturesque setting, it is not hard to imagine why for so many travelers in Bregenz feel like they have a "home in Europe."
Bregenz is centrally located. Using the youth Eurail Globalpass (included in the program fee) and the extensive European train system, students are only a few hours away from many great European cultural centers such as Zurich, Munich, and Salzburg. From Bregenz students can ride trains to Berlin, Heidelberg, Paris, Vienna, Rome, Venice, Florence, Prague, and many other cities. With most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays free, students have ample opportunity to learn and travel.Group and class excursions— including possible visits to museums, castles, factories, businesses, schools, and medieval towns— compliment classes in Business, German, Literature, and Humanities. Living with Austrian families in the charming city of Bregenz also offers students a comfortable home during their study abroad journey.
Due to the number of course offerings on the Austria program, courses are divided into 3 time-blocks. Students cannot select 2 courses in the same time block.
