A key feature of the KIIS Merida program is that all students live with carefully chosen Mexican families, either single or double occupancy. This affords students the opportunity to develop their language skills as well as experience daily life in Mexico.
Two meals per day are taken with the host family. Host families attempt to accommodate requests for special diets and smoke-free environment, but KIIS cannot guarantee that those requests will be met. Students with serious dietary restrictions or acute need for smoke-free conditions should bear this in mind when considering whether the program is suitable for them.
Host families provide towels and bed linens. Laundry must be done at a local laundromat, or an arrangement may be negotiated with the host family.
