World Topper Scholarship (WTS)What is it?
The World Topper Scholarship is administered by the SAGL office to help support students in achieving their international pursuits as they relate to their academic and career goals. This award is designed to aid WKU students in funding their study abroad program. Every degree-seeking WKU student who is not employed by WKU in a faculty or staff position and plans to study abroad on a credit-bearing program is eligible to apply; however, only applications submitted by the corresponding due date are considered.
World Topper Recipient Requirements
All recipients are required to “give back” to SAGL and the WKU campus community. Students who accept the World Topper Scholarship are asked to participate in one of SAGL’s photo, video or writing contests. Additionally, students may be called upon by SAGL staff to communicate with prospective study abroad students, supply additional photos or to provide quotes about their study abroad experience. If a student does not complete one of these requirements, SAGL reserves the right to charge the student’s account for the amount of the World Topper Scholarship received.
How Much Can I Receive?
There is no typical award amount; however, strength of application, student financial need, length, cost and type of program are all considered when determining award amounts. Awards are typically under $1,000.
How to apply?
Complete and submit the online application by the appropriate due date. World Topper recipients will be notified via email within three weeks after the due date.
What if I am awarded a WTS?
If a student is awarded a WTS, they will be notified via email. The scholarship will post to the student’s HigherOne account or it will be allocated to the remaining balance of the study abroad program cost within two weeks of notification.
If your program balance is already paid in full, you will receive your World Topper Scholarship within 10 days before the start of your program. For more questions about disbursement, contact the WKU Financial Assistance office.
What if I Withdraw?
All World Topper Scholarships are contingent upon your participation in a credit-bearing study abroad program. If you decide to withdraw from your program, you are required to inform the SAGL office immediately. Depending on when you withdraw, one of two things may happen:
- Before your program start date: SAGL will inform Financial Aid of your withdrawal and will rescind the scholarship.
- After program start date: If you withdraw after your program has begun and you have already used the scholarship funds, SAGL can bill you for the World Topper Scholarship amount.
You should contact email@example.com with general questions about the WTS.
If you have been notified that you have received a WTS scholarship, but you have not seen it post to your account, contact the firstname.lastname@example.org in the Student Financial Assistance Office.
