About the Program

The Summer Session Program consists of month-long courses in June and July and a three-week session in August. Summer sessions are well-suited for both undergraduate students who want to study abroad and earn academic credit, as well as for independent students seeking a meaningful educational experience. The summer months also offer a variety of cultural and artistic events that take place in and around the LdM campus.

Italian language is optional in the June and July Sessions. All courses, except Italian language courses, are taught in English. LdM courses usually involve 45 to 60 contact hours per term: see course descriptions for details. Attendance is mandatory. Upon course completion students receive an academic record.

The standard course load is 3-7 credits per session. Non-credit cuisine and wine tasting offerings are available in combination with the courses.

LdM Florence Academic Highlights

LdM Florence is situated in the heart of Tuscany, a region that alone has more classified historical monuments than anywhere else in the world. This makes LdM Florence the ideal choice for those interested in studying the humanities, creative arts, design and, of course, Italian language and culture.

Students can choose from over 400 courses, all of which are taught in English, except for Italian language classes. Study abroad programs range from academic semesters to summer courses and workshops, undergraduate certificate programs and bachelor’s degree programs.

LdM also offers a Master of Arts in Museum Studies for graduate students. Through the years, students at LdM Florence have also had the opportunity to undertake internships in Italy’s best museums, as well as in many artisan and small companies that characterize the centuries-old commercial activity of the charming Florentine territory.

About Florence

As the birthplace of modern humanism, naturalistic arts and scientific inquiry, Florence is celebrated as the cradle of the Italian Renaissance, the place where Dante, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Machiavelli and Galileo Galilei changed forever the way we see the world. For centuries, travelers and admirers of the arts and culture have fallen in love with both the city and its enchanting countryside. Recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site for its unique monuments and architecture, Florence has become the epitome of a global city, reflecting the world's diverse cultures, ethnicities, ideas, and forms of creativity, while remaining faithful to its strong artistic tradition.
